The Citizen Leader uses cookies and similar browser storage to remember privacy choices, operate the website, and provide optional features you choose. A cookie is a small piece of data stored by your browser. Other storage and third-party requests can also affect privacy even without a cookie.
Your choices
Select Accept, Reject, or Customize in the banner. Optional categories start off. Reopen the privacy settings icon to change your choices. Consent applies to thecitizenleader.com and its www address for up to 90 days. If you clear your browser storage, use another browser, or a material policy change requires a new choice, the banner may appear again. Global Privacy Control disables optional Analytics even if a saved preference would otherwise allow it.
Necessary
tcl-consent-v1 remembers your choices and a random consent identifier for up to 90 days. It is available across this site’s www and non-www addresses. Necessary security, cache, and WordPress login cookies may also be used when those functions are relevant. Administrator login cookies are separate from optional visitor Analytics.
Our self-hosted c15t service records the selected categories, time, source, language, and signed policy version so we can demonstrate and honor your choices. Consent records are stored for up to three years; rolling backups last up to 30 additional days. The consent database does not retain IP addresses or user-agent strings. The server still receives technical information needed to handle a request and protect the service.
Analytics — optional
Google Analytics helps us understand visits and page use. Google Tag Manager and Analytics load only after Analytics is allowed. Analytics cookies include _ga and _ga_*, used to distinguish browsers and maintain session information. We configure their maximum lifetime to 90 days, refreshed by later permitted visits. We do not enable advertising cookies, Google Signals, or advertising personalization. Page addresses and referrers sent through our configuration omit query strings and fragments.
Form security — necessary when you submit
The regular contact form uses Google reCAPTCHA for spam prevention. It loads only when you submit, regardless of whether you accepted or rejected optional cookies. It can set _GRECAPTCHA (commonly up to six months) and use browser storage such as _grecaptcha for risk analysis. We use recaptcha.net rather than google.com for this integration to avoid unrelated Google cookies. Google processes the associated customer data on our behalf for security and abuse prevention. We treat this narrowly scoped use as necessary form security, not optional Analytics.
Our separate privacy-request form works without Google reCAPTCHA or optional cookies. It uses server-side spam checks, a signed form token, and temporary rate limits. Neither form publishes the recipient’s email address.
Optional content
If a page includes an embedded YouTube or Vimeo video, our integration holds it until this category is allowed. The provider may then receive your IP address and device information and use its own storage. Ordinary external links, including book-purchase links, do not load the linked service merely because you accept cookies here.
Changing or withdrawing consent
Changing a category to off stops future optional loading and reloads the page to unload active features. We remove relevant first-party Analytics cookies that this site can access. We cannot delete cookies owned by another domain, remove data already received by a provider, or override your separate choices on that provider’s site. Use your browser’s controls or the provider’s privacy tools for those actions.
If the consent service is unavailable, optional features remain blocked. Cookie names and provider behavior can change; we will update this policy and controls when our integration changes. For questions, use our privacy-request form.
